What is dvLED?
Direct view LED, or dvLED, is a display made of light emitting diodes that you look at directly. Each pixel is formed by red, green and blue LEDs on the face of the panel, with no backlight, no liquid crystal layer and no projector in between. Because the light source is the image itself, a dvLED wall is seamless, bright enough for daylight, and can be built to almost any size or shape.

How a dvLED wall is built
A dvLED wall is assembled from small modules that combine into panels, and panels that tile together into a single surface. Every pixel on that surface is a cluster of red, green and blue LEDs. A control system feeds the image to the wall, receiving electronics inside each panel light the correct LEDs, and calibration keeps color and brightness even across the whole surface.
Because the panels join edge to edge with no frame between them, the result is one continuous image with no visible seams, at any size from a small meeting room wall to a full arena display.
How dvLED differs from LCD and projection
An LCD video wall uses backlit liquid crystal panels. Each panel has a thin border, so tiling several of them always leaves faint grid lines across the picture. A projector needs throw distance and a controlled, darker room, and its image washes out in bright light.
A dvLED wall emits its own light, pixel by pixel. That means no seams, high brightness that holds up in daylight, deep black levels, a wide viewing angle, and a long service life. It is why dvLED has become the choice for rooms where the image simply has to be right.
What pixel pitch means
Pixel pitch is the distance between the centers of two neighboring pixels, measured in millimeters. A smaller pitch packs more pixels into the same area, which raises resolution and lets viewers stand closer without seeing individual points of light. The right pitch depends on how close people will be and on the budget.
The LED surface technologies
The LEDs themselves can be mounted in several ways. Surface mount devices place individual red, green and blue LEDs on the board. Chip on board encapsulates the LED chips under a protective resin surface. Integrated packages combine several pixels in one small component. Micro LED in package points toward the finest pitches. Each has its place depending on pitch, durability and cost.

dvLED is used wherever a large, seamless, accurate image matters: automotive design studios, virtual production volumes, broadcast sets, command and control rooms, sports venues and digital out of home media, as well as retail and corporate spaces.
